There are so many artists I never heard of in Coachella’s 2010 line up that I wanted it somehow sorted by popularity. So I wrote a quick script to search those artists on Last.FM and sort the results by number of listeners.

Nothing fancy or accurate, but helped me check if any of the popular ones have slipped under my radar.

Grizzly Bear is a four-piece / band from Brooklyn, New York. Their music utilizes melody and ambiance in conjunction with hazy-eyed choruses, whistles, piano, banjo, and several woodwind instruments. Grizzly Bear was originally the solo project of Edward Droste (vocals/guitar), who recorded his debut album Horn Of Plenty at home. The record was originally meant for his friends, but it eventually circulated and got a proper release in 2004, this time with the help of Christopher Bear (drums/vocals). The band members are Anand Wilder, Chris Keating, and Ira Wolf Tuton. They describe their music as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel”. Yeasayer recently revealed in an interview with Pitchfork that they had finished their sophomore album and it would be released on February 9, 2010. On October 30th, 2009 Yeasayer revealed details for the first single release from “Odd Blood” entitled “Ambling Alp”.

She & Him is an American indie folk band consisting of actress Zooey Deschanel and musician M. Ward. The pair first met in 2006 for a movie soundtrack project for the film ‘The Go-Getter’ in which they recorded a version of Richard and Linda Thompson’s “When I Get To The Border”. A mere week later they were recording together and thus, Sleigh Bells were formed. To make matters even more interesting, the two come from very different musical backgrounds, with Derek playing hardcore and Alexis being part of a pop group during her teens.

Having shared the stage with The Stills, The Dandy Warhols, Stars, Our Lady Peace, Tegan and Sara, Powderfinger and 54*40, the self-managed band took time out of their touring schedule last year to record their first full-length, Bridges. The distinctive LP was produced by Neil Osborne, longtime singer from Canadian rock luminaries 54*40, in his first official production role beyond his own band’s duties.
